How my friend Emily lost 20 pounds - and kept it off
My friend Emily Grigg has a great weight loss story.
By any common definition, she was doing much better than average. That’s the point where most people stop, or don’t even try in the first place.
Not Emily
Instead she decided that average is not normal for her. So she said FUCK IT and built a bottoms up approach to getting her dream body.
In this interview I talk with Emily about how she made simple and sustainable changes which resulted in her losing 20 pounds - and keeping it off. She shows her high level strategy as well as very practical recommendations.

Here the top highlights and lessons from our chat
- She struggled with weight fluctuations leading up to this
- Her workouts now are 3-4 times per week, 30-45 minutes each
- “I have a typical story, I was cardio bunny and cross country runner. but I was never making progress, I was still in shape but I never made improvements in body composition”
- “Higher impact and higher intensity spikes your cortisol, and that stops you from losing weight”
- Her priority is full body workouts, and she does abs in every workout
- “Once you start to see some results, it becomes addictive. Now I’m the most confident i’ve ever felt in my skin - at age 36…. this is the best”
- “My biggest life hack is an air fryer - it’s the easiest and fastest way to eat real food. It’s way quicker and more efficient than an oven, especially if you aren’t cooking for a family”
- “I do intuitive eating, I go by how I feel”
- “Fall in love with the process”
