I think I discovered a new type of pull up

Thanks to everyone who sent feedback for the latest God Bod workout. It’s awesome to hear about how so many of you are trying and liking it. If you haven’t yet, please try it for your next workout.

I still love the gym, don’t get me wrong. But now that my backyard workouts are so effective due to God Bod, I barely need to go the gym anymore. I’m in the gym maybe 2-3 days per month now.

As discussed in the essential tools for your God Bod workout, bands and dumbbells should be the highest priority workout equipment to buy. They are cheap, portable, and anyone can use them.

This started as a challenge to myself

I was visiting family recently and I wanted to take it one step further. They don’t have any equipment and especially don’t have a pull up bar, so I challenged myself to do an entire God Bod workout using only bands and a tree. It’s about as minimal as you can get.

It worked so much better than I expected

This is what my workout looked like.

Roots, 4 sets:

  • Pull-up [superset] decline pushups
  • Pistol squats

Trunk, 4 sets:

  • Band pull apart
  • Romanian sumo banded deadlifts

Branch, 4 sets:

  • Bicep banded curl [superset] tricep banded pushdown
  • calf raise [superset] tib raises

And then I accidentally figured out a new kind of pull up

The tree in the backyard plus bands proved to be exceptionally convenient. After some tinkering, I figured out an awesome pull up hack. I put two thick bands together and hung them over a branch. It held me up fine and the dynamic contractions of the band added an extra layer of complexity to the movement. It would have been nice if the tree branch was higher but, by having to keep my legs elevated, it made the lift even more engaging. Pretty neat.

It worked really well and I’ve never seen this kind of pull up before. What shall we call it?

Trees are our friends!

Nate
