My girlfriend smoked me
This weekend, my girlfriend and I went for a workout on one of the most beautiful staircases in San Francisco: the Lincoln Park Steps

If it isn’t obvious enough by now — staircases, and hills generally, are one of the best workouts you can get. See here and here.
We started with a straight up timed sprint to the top, two steps at a time. I did well and she did too, though she was frustrated that her time was so far off.
She’s a super fit lady, but I’m a trained competitive sprinter and powerlifter. This is my kind of thing.
We also did hops, two stairs at a time. I did extremely well because it’s basically a bunch of box jumps back to back. Again, my kind of thing, and she did do well, but she was jealous nonetheless.
BUT THEN
We did SINGLE stair hops to the half way point…
…and she absolutely smoked me.
Even though it was only half way up, I was nearly 2 seconds behind every lap, no matter how I tried.
Her form was precise, fast, and focused. It was incredible!
How did she do it?
I introduced her to proper jump rope over the pandemic, and ever since she has completely taken off.
Jump rope is one of the best forms of cardio you can do, and totally carries over to skill and speed challenges. Like the staircase!
